Minute Pirate Bug

Minute pirate bugs can be found throughout the summer, mainly coming out on warm days to feed.

The duration of eggs to adults only taking three weeks.

In the fall when food sources become scarce, these insects have been known to  bite humans.

These carnivores feed on pest insects such as mites and aphids. You'll find them on plants with an abundance of other insects using their front legs to capture prey and using their mouthparts to spear them. These fierce predators are capable of feeding on 30 spider mites in a single day. Minute pirate bugs are identifiable by their black and white oval body.
